What’s happening in Sudan?
It’s not in the news, but the largest humanitarian emergency in the world is unfolding in Sudan. Extreme violence has decimated Khartoum. Countless smaller cities and villages have been destroyed. Mass war crimes remain ongoing.
70% of Sudan’s healthcare system has collapsed. Many farmers cannot work and access is extremely limited. Famine now looms over entire swaths of the country and is threatening more lives than the violence itself.
Three Heroic Beneficiaries
Displaced in El Fasher
Team Zamzam consists of 20 female counselors serving victims of sexual violence in Zamzam displaced persons near El Fasher, Darfur. This area is under siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Team Zamzam is distributing food to the disabled and blind, the elderly, widows who have taken in orphans, and those with severe acute malnutrition.
Darfur Refugees in Adré
Survivors of the RSF genocide against ethnic minorities in Darfur are fleeing into the refugee camp of Adré in eastern Chad. Rations in the camp have already been cut due to a severe lack of humanitarian funding. Refugee leaders and Masalit healthcare workers have organized their own small feeding programs and two medical clinics to provide care to orphaned children, the elderly, and the disabled.
Darfur Refugees in Juba
Refugees who are unable to flee safely into eastern Chad often head for South Sudan, where humanitarian resources are extremely limited and difficult to access. Our childhood education partner has an office in Juba and is trying to provide basic food relief to the most needy families until they can access broader refugee benefits.

About The Design
Featuring the colors of Sudan’s national flag, the red setting of a destroyed city street in Khartoum shows the emergency in a literal sense. The woman in green walking toward the sun symbolizes a harsh reality: Sudanese women are bearing the brunt of the war even as many work tirelessly to feed the hungry and unite their communities against oppression. She is moving herself and her country toward a brighter future.
